If you’ve lost important data or switched to a new Xiaomi phone, Mi Cloud Backup can help you recover everything — from photos and contacts to settings and apps. This guide explains how to restore Xiaomi data from Mi Cloud backup using your Mi Account and MIUI settings.

1. What Is Mi Cloud Backup?

Mi Cloud is Xiaomi’s official cloud service that automatically saves your device data online. Once you sign in with your Mi Account, it can back up your:

  • Contacts and messages

  • Gallery photos and videos

  • Notes and call history

  • Wi-Fi passwords and device settings

When you restore from Mi Cloud, your Xiaomi phone returns to the same state it was during your last backup.

2. Before You Begin

Before starting the restore process, make sure that:

  • You have a stable Wi-Fi connection (restores can be large).

  • You’re signed in with the same Mi Account used for backup.

  • Battery level is at least 50% or keep the phone charging.

To check your last backup:
Settings → Mi Account → Mi Cloud → Backups.

Here, you’ll see the latest backup date and device name.

3. Restore Xiaomi Data During Initial Setup

If you’re setting up a new or freshly reset Xiaomi device:

  1. Turn on your phone and follow the setup screens.

  2. When asked to sign in, enter your Mi Account username and password.

  3. Once signed in, MIUI will detect your available Mi Cloud backups.

  4. Choose the most recent backup and tap Restore.

  5. Wait for the process to complete (this can take several minutes).

✅ Done! Your contacts, messages, and settings will automatically return to your phone.

💡 Tip: Keep your device connected to Wi-Fi and power until all data is fully restored.

4. Restore Mi Cloud Data After Setup

If your Xiaomi phone is already set up, you can still sync your backed-up data manually:

  1. Open Settings → Mi Account → Mi Cloud.

  2. Tap Sync to manually synchronize items such as Contacts, Gallery, and Notes.

  3. Ensure that Sync automatically is turned ON for continuous updates.

You can also visit https://i.mi.com on your computer to view or download your Mi Cloud data directly.

5. Restore Local Backups (Alternative Method)

If you’ve previously created a local backup on your phone storage or SD card:

  1. Go to Settings → About phone → Backup & restore.

  2. Tap Restore from backup.

  3. Choose the backup file you want to restore.

  4. Tap Restore and wait for the process to finish.

This method doesn’t require internet but only works if you’ve made local backups earlier.

6. Common Restore Problems and Fixes

  • Backup not showing: Ensure you’re logged in with the same Mi Account.

  • Sync failed: Go to Settings → Apps → Mi Cloud → Clear cache, then try again.

  • Slow restore: Switch to a stronger Wi-Fi network.

  • Missing data: Check if the item was included in the last backup list.
